John is in his 30th season as Music Director of Orchestras Mississauga. Mississauga and its Orchestra have been the base of both his career and life during these years. In 2007 he was honoured to receive the Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award.
John also maintains a busy schedule beyond Mississauga. Currently, he is Music Director of the Georgian Bay Symphony, the Huronia Symphony, and the Scarborough Philharmonic.
His childhood passion for music lead to a degree at the University of Toronto and then to studies in Europe. He had a career as violist before devoting himself full-time to conducting. John was fortunate to have Canada Council assisted conducting positions with theThunder Bay and Edmonton orchestras before coming to Mississauga.
In addition, John has conducted Chorus and Opera ensembles as well as Youth Orchestras — a Music Directorship with the Mississauga Youth Orchestra being the most recent.
He has also fulfilled a number of Music Administration roles, often in parallel with his conducting. He worked for the Royal Conservatory for many years and also taught at the University of Toronto.
John is Past President of the Rotary Club of Mississauga. Golf remains a mystery to him.
