Ron began his studies of the violin at the age of eight, the viola at twelve He earned degrees in music from Indiana University and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., studying with the great viola and violin virtuosos William Primrose and Oscar Shumsky.
Following four years as Viola Soloist in the United States Marine Band White House Orchestra and String Quartet in Washington, D.C., he spent a season performing with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Subsequently, he was Principal Violist of the Indianapolis Symphony and, for thirty-one years, a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as soloist and in chamber music concerts in the United States, Canada, and Europe and on both CBC radio and television. Since his recent retirement from the TSO, he continues to perform chamber music as a member of the Passage Ensemble and the Hurwitz – Yanviker Duo.
